Custom Home Builds
Many prospective homeowners choose not to purchase a turnkey property but instead build from the ground up. It is easy to understand why building a custom home is attractive as it allows you the ability to design your dream space and incorporate the features most important to you and your family.
The building process for a custom home requires careful planning, working with a builder or contractor that has experienced and professional trades is key. As far as the interior is concerned, flooring and tile make up a large portion of any home. Our team is here to guide you through the selections process to help you bring your dream space to life.
As you move into your interior selections, this is where the style and personality of your home are created. We suggest making these decisions simultaneously to achieve a cohesive overall flow of the home. You may consider working with a professional to support you through this process – some builders have in house designers, there are a great deal of amazing local designers, and we even have an in-house interior designer to support you as well!
Custom home builds are so much fun to design as you are working with a blank canvas! This is what you can expect when selecting your finishes with us for your custom build:
We typically recommend having cabinet colors selected prior to any flooring selections, this will allow you to work around the heart of the home (if you are able to bring samples with you that is super helpful when selecting flooring).
Firstly, we would work on selecting the hard surface for the home (this will usually be hardwood, vinyl plank, or laminate).
Next up is the fun part – selecting tile. This can be a daunting process as there are SO many options available, and any given house can have a range of different tiles.
If you think about all the areas this application is used (entry, mudroom / laundry room, bathroom floors, bathroom walls, backsplash, fireplace, feature walls, etc.).
Lastly, we would move into carpet selection. We do still see a large amount of carpet used in new build homes.
It does tend to be the most economical option on stairs and is still sought after in bedrooms and basements for comfort and warmth.
We do encourage clients to take samples of their finishes with them to other selection appointments
